A Participatory Voice Project from Japan

A new project is taking its first step.
Voice Gathering is not about separating performers from an audience. It is a space where everyone becomes a voice, a creator, and part of the resonance.
It is a field where everyone becomes part of the resonance.
On July 26, we will gather at a Zen temple in Kyoto, Japan, with singers Mocca, Shimako Sarumaru, and Kackey, in an event hosted by Junko Yoshioka.
The three singers are not simply there to perform. We serve as facilitators who guide the space and help everyone cultivate the resonance together.
Together, we will explore what happens when many individual voices become one living vibration.
We recently completed our first original Voice Gathering song, “Voice Gathering Gaia.” The song was created during our stay in Gifu and is designed for everyone to sing together through sustained vowels, drones, harmony, and free vocal improvisation.
I believe this is only the beginning.
As more people begin to express joy, peace, and resonance through their own voices, those vibrations will meet, multiply, and travel from Japan into the world.
As a teenager, I developed a stutter and nearly gave up on communicating with others through words. Then I discovered singing.
Today, I create music and sing with people from many different cultures and countries. I will continue sounding the voice of this planet as one of its many transmitters.

Voice Gathering Gaia
“Voice Gathering Gaia” was created and recorded during a stay in Gifu by Kackey, Mocca, and Shimako Sarumaru.
The piece begins with a shared drone, followed by its central theme, individual improvisations, plant music, and the sound of a stone flute.
Participants may choose one of three elemental vocal parts and join the music through sustained vowels and resonance.

The Concept
What is Voice Gathering?
Everyone is a voice.
Voice Gathering removes the conventional boundary between performer and audience.
Every person in the space is invited to become a source of sound, expression, breath, and presence.
We cultivate resonance together.
Kackey, Mocca, and Shimako Sarumaru act as facilitators, gently guiding the participants through drones, elemental vocal parts, melody, improvisation, and silence.
No special vocal skill is required.
This is not about singing perfectly. Participants may simply sustain a vowel, listen to the surrounding voices, and discover how their sound changes within the whole.
A culture beginning in Japan.
Voice Gathering is intended to grow into an ongoing series of songs, gatherings, and collaborative rituals that connect people through direct vocal resonance.

Voice Gathering、始まります。
2026年7月26日、京都・妙心寺にて、 吉岡純子さん主催のイベント「キ祭」に出演します。
シンガーの木歌ちゃん、猿丸詩摩子ちゃんと共に、 新しくスタートするプロジェクト 「Voice Gathering」をお届けします。
その場にいる一人ひとりが、響きの一部になる時間です。
Voice Gatheringは、演奏する人と聴く人に分かれるものではありません。
その場にいる一人ひとりが、 声の発信者であり、表現者です。
僕たち3人は、歌を披露するだけではなく、 皆さんと一緒に「響きを育てる」ファシリテーターとして、 その場をナビゲートします。
先日、岐阜で3人の最初のオリジナル曲 『Voice Gathering Gaia』が完成しました。
参加者はEarth、Fire、Waterの3つから好きなパートを選び、 母音を長く伸ばすドローン、メインテーマ、 自由な声の即興を通して共鳴していきます。
ここから、この歌を皆さんと育てながら、 新しい文化を少しずつ広げていきたいと思っています。
日本から、一人また一人と、 歓喜のバイブレーションを発する人が増えていく。
その響きが共鳴し合い、世界へ届いていく。 本気でそう考えています。
10代の頃に吃音が出始め、 他人と言葉でコミュニケーションを取ることを ほとんど諦めていた自分が、歌に出会いました。
今はこうして、さまざまな国の人たちと音楽をつくり、 歌っています。
自分もまた一人の発信者として、 この星の音を鳴らしていきます。
ありがたいことに、情報公開初日に 夜の部50席は満席となりました。
