Today, June 23rd, is “Irei no Hi” – Okinawa Memorial Day.
It marks the end of the Battle of Okinawa, one of the fiercest and most tragic ground battles in the final stages of World War II.
More than 200,000 lives were lost, including many civilians.
In Okinawa, this day is a public holiday dedicated to remembering the victims and praying for peace.
At noon, the entire island observes one minute of silent prayer.
I will also join in this moment of silence at noon.
May our prayers for peace reach every soul and every land.
