Reflections from Today’s Two Books – The Kano Sisters and Coco Chanel
今日は、まったくタイプの違うようでいて、どこか共鳴している2人の女性に触れる時間だった。
Today, I spent time with two women who seem completely different, yet resonate in profound ways.
1冊は叶姉妹さんの『ファビュラス・ワールドMAX』。
もう1冊は山口路子さんの『ココ・シャネルという生き方』。
One was “Fabulous World MAX” by the Kano Sisters, and the other was “The Way of Living: Coco Chanel” by Michiko Yamaguchi.
読んでいて気づいたのは、どちらも――
While reading, I realized both of them share:
• 所有しない｜Not being possessive
• 執着しない｜Letting go of attachment
• 異端を恐れない｜Not fearing being different
そんな哲学を持ち、それを言葉だけでなく実際の生き方として体現していること。
They live these philosophies not just in words, but through their actions and way of being.
ココ・シャネルが芸術家たちを支援した「メセナ（mécénat）」という姿勢には、単なる成功したビジネスウーマンという枠を超えた、深い精神性を感じた。
Coco Chanel’s support of artists through “mécénat” reflects a spiritual depth beyond that of a successful businesswoman.
ジャン・コクトーやストラヴィンスキーを援助した話なんかは、まさに見返りを求めない愛のようで、美しく潔い。
Her support for Jean Cocteau and Stravinsky felt like pure love without expectation—so graceful, so selfless.
一方、叶恭子さんの言葉には、自己表現を突き詰めた先にある孤高の美学があり、
On the other hand, Kyoko Kano’s words embody a solitary and bold aesthetic rooted in radical self-expression.
「わたくし自身がわたくしの作品なのです」という言葉には、強い覚悟と自由への責任が込められていた。
Her statement, “I myself am my own masterpiece,” carries a sense of determination and the responsibility that comes with true freedom.
どちらの本も面白かったし、
何より、“どう生きるか”に対するスタンスが美しかった。
Both books were fascinating—and more than anything, their stance on how to live was truly beautiful.
時代も背景も違えど、
「自分の人生を、自分の美学で選び取る」というメッセージが静かに心に響いた一日。
Despite their different times and contexts, their message of “choosing your life through your own sense of beauty” quietly echoed in my heart today.
